We arose to a glorious morning. The sun was shining brightly, rapidly burning off the fog that had fallen like a curtain over the lake during the night. The water sparkled and shimmered as we packed the van to move on; it looked blue instead of the muddy brown of the day before.
From the Michigan line to Flint the road offered little to see other than commercial areas or large billboards announcing upcoming commercial areas. It left no opportunity to see the passing scenery, and it was a good reminder of why I dislike billboards on major highways! However, the rest areas are beautiful and in the areas where the signs disappear, the trees along the side are wonderful.
We arrived in Bay City early in the afternoon and enjoyed a nice lunch on the patio of Mulligan’s downtown. It’s a very small area with a wonderful city park and River walk on what we decided was the Saginaw River.
After lunch/dinner, we found the Bay City State Park. There, after walking a very long way, we finally got to see Lake Huron. No wonder it’s the one very few seem to be able to locate. It’s certainly well hidden here!
Back at the motel, we discovered a canal of some sort inhabited by a heron that got away before I could get a picture. DillyDog had a great time tracking some geese that had the audacity to walk past our window, and I got a glimpse of a family of ducks just before they disappeared behind the marsh grass.
All-in-all, a good day, but I’m looking forward to getting off the interstates tomorrow.
